Remember the Importance of Memorial Day

Service UniformOriginally called Decoration Day, Memorial Day is a holiday of remembering the men and women who have died while serving our country. This holiday can be powerful for many, while others see the weekend as the kick-off to summer.

Although we’re also excited for summer, please take the time to show respect to those who have fallen. On Memorial Day, the flag of the United States is raised to the top of the staff and then solemnly lowered to the half-staff position, where it remains only until noon. The half-staff position remembers the more than one million men and women who gave their lives in service of our country. At noon when the flag goes back up, their memory is raised by the living, who resolve not to let their sacrifice be in vain, but to rise up in their stead and continue to fight for liberty and justice for all. You see, Memorial Day may mean summer to a few people, but overall it’s a powerful holiday of remembrance.

Kick-off summer the right way, by paying your respects first. Check out the Veterans Memorial Day Parade and Tribute Ceremony on May 25, in Civic Center Park. Join hundreds of people in remembering the lives of those lost while service our country. Kick-off summer the right way this May!

We Recognize Armed Forces Day

Armed Forces Day was created to establish a holiday for citizens to come together and thank our military members for their patriotic service in support of our country. In the United States, Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in May, which means this year it is on May 16.

At Service Uniform, we respect all individuals in the armed forces. Our services reach all over the Colorado Front Range, including Colorado Springs, where we share a community and home with individuals from the United States Air Force Academy. Our employees down in Colorado Springs speak highly of the Air Force Academy and the individuals we see from the campus (we can’t help but spot their uniforms!). This month, for Armed Forces Day, we salute the individuals in our home state of Colorado, including but not limited to, those in the Air Force Academy.

This year, take time to say thank you to those who serve. Almost everyone knows someone who is currently serving, and if you look around you’ll spot uniforms of active military personnel almost everywhere. Military uniforms are perfect for identification but they are also an element of a large entity which is the Armed Forces. Uniforms give a strong sense of pride and draw respect for those in the Armed Forces, and we’re sure you’ll see a lot of participants this month.
